Memorial Programs
"Libraries are not made, they grow."
In 1921, the Sauk City Women's Club planted the first seed, and our library has grown ever since. A large part of this growth has been due to memorials, gifts, bequests, and endowments provided by concerned civic-minded citizens.
Over the years citizens have donated library materials and have donated funds to provide popular materials, furnishings and the construction of the library building. The Library Board and staff wish to thank the following individuals and businesses for their continuing support of the library.
Thank you to all of our Friends who have baked for our programs and for our pie sale. Thank you to all who have donated books, DVDs, CDs and videos for the Library and the Friends booksale. Thank you to the businesses and members of civic organizations who generously donate prizes for summer reading programs. And thank you to the following individuals and businesses who have donated funds to provide new materials and who have contributed to the Library's general fund and building fund:
Esta Eschenbach, the Charles Ploetz Foundation, the Bank of Prairie du Sac, Marian Brewer, TOPS, Madison Gas & Electric, Howard and Irene Frey, Pete and Sally Blum, Don and Carol Mack, and Dorothy Enge; and memorial gifts from Arlene Wegner, Betty L. There are many ways to help the library continue to grow:
- Purchase a Memorial book for the collection
- Endow a special service
- Establish a trust fund for library materials
- Make an outright bequest or gift to the library for use as the Library Board sees fit
- Establish a charitable remainder trust for the benefit of the library
All donations are tax deductible.
Memorial Books
Leave a lasting memorial for a loved-one. Honor an employee, graduate, or volunteer. Commemorate a birthday, retirement or anniversary. Create something special for your honoree, the library, and the entire community. Contact the library to select a memorial book, or print and return this Memorial Bookmark (pdf).
Books can be chosen in subject areas of special interest for remembering the honoree. The person or special occasion is recognized on a book plate installed inside the front cover. A memorial card is sent to a person of your choice to provide the information on your memorial purchase. Your memorial book is then put into the general collection for all our area residents to use and enjoy.
Bequests, Endowments, Trust Funds
Funds may be left to the library for a variety of purposes. The following is a suggested form for an outright bequest, which you may have your attorney adopt to fit your ends:
"I give and bequest $ ____________ to the Sauk City Public Library, Sauk City, Wisconsin. I recognize that the particular use which should be made of these funds can best be determined in view of the conditions existing at the time. Accordingly, the amount may be used by the library's governing board within its sole discretion for any purpose consistent with the objectives of the library."Members of the Library Board or the Library Director are available to discuss such memorials with you or your legal counsel.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
Funds may be left to the library during your lifetime with additional tax advantages and without sacrificing amounts left to heirs. Information on setting up a charitable remainder trust can be obtained through bank trust departments or your attorney. Again, members of the Library Board or the Library Director are available to discuss such memorials with you or your legal counsel.
